I am excited to share that, as of the 2026 election, I am serving as the Outreach Working Group Chair on the Executive Committee of MagNetUS, the U.S. network for experimental magnetized plasma research. MagNetUS brings together a broad scientific community, including users of national facilities, groups running university-scale experiments, and theorists and simulators, with the goal of building an ecosystem in which anyone interested in magnetized plasma research can find collaborators, facility access and training.

The network connects a growing consortium of affiliated facilities, including the Basic Plasma Science Facility at UCLA, the Wisconsin Plasma Physics Laboratory, the Magnetized Plasma Research Laboratory at Auburn University, the Center for Kinetic Plasma at West Virginia University, the Bryn Mawr Plasma Laboratory, the Naval Research Laboratory Space Physics Simulation Chamber, the OpenStar Junior Levitated Dipole Experiment and the DIII-D National Fusion Facility. Through a joint call for runtime proposals, researchers can apply for experimental time and facility support across these devices through a single shared process, which lowers the barrier to doing experiments for groups that do not have a large machine of their own.

A central part of the MagNetUS mission is broadening participation in plasma science. The network works to build partnerships with predominantly undergraduate institutions, smaller research programs and groups that have historically been excluded from the field, and to train the next generation of magnetized plasma scientists. To support this, MagNetUS runs an annual workshop (held in 2026 at UC San Diego), a quarterly newsletter, and a webinar and tutorial series that includes live coding tutorials with tools like PlasmaPy, along with curated resources on summer schools and upcoming plasma physics meetings.

As Outreach Chair, I am looking forward to helping MagNetUS reach new students, faculty and institutions, and to making it even easier for people across the country to get involved with experimental plasma research. This role is a natural extension of my work with Fusion Energy Week and the US Fusion Outreach Team, and I am excited to bring together these communities.

Membership in MagNetUS is free and open to anyone interested in magnetized plasma research. You can learn more and sign up at magnetus.net, and please do not hesitate to reach out if you have ideas for outreach activities or would like to get involved!
